Real people, in Real life, enjoying the creation of a Real God - that's the foundation behind Real Deal Outdoors. Our goal is to put you as a viewer in the deerstand, turkey woods or duck blind right along with us or make that special hunt a lifelong memory for you.
About Us
Real Deal Outdoor Productions was founded by Austin Black in November 2009 as a dream to create hunting videos that showcased the authentic experiences of real, everyday hunters who appreciate and recognize the creation of God in the outdoors.
Unlike other outdoor production companies, Real Deal Outdoors is not made of professional hunters who travel the nation hunting with outfitters. We are everyday people who enjoy the outdoors and work hard to manage our own property and strive to make every harvest and every season genuine and memorable. We do all the work ourselves, from acquiring land and scouting, to managing the land and wildlife, to preparing for the hunt and performing post-harvest processing.
But the joy doesn't just end with us. Real Deal Outdoor Productions also offers freelance and custom videography and editing services. Whether you have a weekend youth hunt you want to capture on tape or a week long western expedition, we can make the experience a memorable one that will last a lifetime.
We are also very proud to partner with

Species Harvested: Whitetail Deer (doe)
Weapon Used: CVA Optima .50 Cal
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is Illinois first Firearm Season weekend. Just a week before I ordered a CVA Optima and got it Thursday evening and got it dead on target. After not being able to see anything or shoot, I didnt know if I would be able to try it out. But, low and behold, after I got out of the blind on Sunday afternoon, I spooked a doe and so I stayed on her. My scope was set on 5th power when she ran out at approximately 20 yards. I made a horrible shot on her in the hind quarters but I wasted her left leg and she wasnt making it very well. I tracked her to a ditch and finished her off. Exciting hunt and glad to shoot my first deer with my new inline muzzleloader!
Date of Harvest: Nov 23, 2011
Species Harvested: Cottontail rabbit
Weapon Used: Browning Verado (Bow)
Bow hunting takes a lot of patience and sitting still. Well, I was laying down along a fence line with my decoy out in the bean stubble. As I sat there quietly and patiently waiting on a deer whether it be a doe or a buck, I heard something coming through the brush behind me. Sitting as still as I could this animal was getting much closer and I wasn't seeing anything. Then out of the corner of my eye, there it was, a nice size rabbit. When the rabbit spooked, I sat up pulled back and shot, sending the rabbit in the air. Shot right behind the front shoulders and it only ran about 5 feet. Great hunt, beings I have never done that before.

Species Harvested: Coyote
Weapon Used: Howa 22-250
This was a morning stand. I got to this location before light to see if I could set any coyotes to howl back at me while it was still dark. I howled once and immediately a coyote howled back a couple hundred yards way. So I set there for 10 minutes waiting for enough light to see. Once I had enough light I started blowing the cottontail distress and in minutes I had a big male coyote on the ground at 40 yds.

This was an evening stand. The sun had just set and it was a cool & calm evening. I was sitting in a small clump of brush in a fence row overlooking a big pasture with a brushy waterway in front of me & a 5-6 acre patch of timber to my right. I started with a couple howls and after a few minutes I saw two coyotes come out of the small patch of timber to my right. They paused and looked for a few seconds and then came straight toward me. I let them get about 50 yds before I whistle to get them to stop. The coyote on the right was quartering to me so I took him first, then set on the other that was running straight away. I howled and barked with my voice and finally got the second coyote to stop at 200 yds. I squezzed the trigger and had my first double of the year!

Describe your hunting experience and why you enjoy it:
I started hunting with my grandpa by going on the traditional Thanksgiving Day family squirrel hunt. Soon after, I began pursuing turkey, then deer, waterfowl and everything else. I always say, If it walks, it drops if it flies, it dies!. There are a number of reasons I love hunting and being outdoors. First and foremost is the experience I have being in God's creation. Whether it's opening day of turkey season, the prime of the rut, or the middle of the fall migration, there is nothing more exciting, breathtaking and beautiful than a morning in nature. The camaraderie of fellow hunters is always a treat and being able to share this passion with family and friends is priceless. Close encounters, adrenaline rush and the thrill of the hunt continue to draw me outdoors for every single season. But what really makes the hunt enjoyable is listening to God as He speaks through the wind, the birds and every sound of the woods. Harvesting an animal is always a joy, but worshiping God while outdoors is the real reward!

I have been hunting and fishing since I was little. I killed my first squirrel when I was eight, my first turkey in the spring when I was eleven and my first deer that fall, just after I turned twelve. Ever since I have been in the woods on a consistent basis and continually trying to harvest new species until I was actively pursuing most of the game listed above. I have been privileged to guide several people in pursuit and success of their first turkey and I always enjoy the excitement and blessing of putting one more of almost anything in the bag whether it technically be a trophy or not.

I had the privilege of growing up in a hunting home as I remember sniping pigeons at a young age of 7 with my pellet gun. My father took me rifle hunting for whitetail at the age of 11 and I was hooked. While a sophomore in college a good friend of mine encouraged me to give up the smoke pole and be challenged to hunt with a bow. For the last 8 years, my rifle has stayed in the case and I have chased big bone with stick and string. It is the smell, sounds, and a feeling of relaxation and determination that drives my mind to hunting every August-September. It is a time for me to reflect and truly enjoy all the blessings that God has bestowed upon me in this beautiful world. It captivates me, while at the same time frees me!

Growing up I was very fortunate to have a dad that took me hunting with him every time he went whether it be deer, turkey or bird hunting. I couldn't wait until the weekends so me and dad could get in the woods. I loved it and now that I'm older I'm totally obsessed with it. From deer to turkeys, calling coyotes, setting traps to coon hunting, I love every minute spent in the field with family & friends just enjoying God's awesome creation.

My hunting experience started when I was about 7 years old. I would go to the woods with my father and grandfather and sit and wait for them to shoot a deer. At the age of 13, I was the one with the gun that year, in 2003 I killed my first doe. From that year forward I have been hooked on hunting whitetail. I hunted squirrels before 2003 but that was the year that I was introduced into the deer hunting. Every year I get more and more into the hunting season. Last year I killed my biggest deer, a 160 inch 13 pointer. God works wonders from a deer stand, as I sit there waiting on Him to give me an opportunity of seeing a deer or shooting one, all I do is praise Him for everything around me. You could say that I enjoy hunting or the outdoors so much because I am out there enjoying what God made for us to enjoy.

I’ve always been outdoors and enjoyed the fresh air and hunting is just one of the things that adds to that. Going out early in the morning or late in the evening it just gives you a chance to see the beauty of God’s creation in a different light. While I wouldn’t exactly pass up a monster deer or a 30 pound turkey success cannot be measured by the size of the trophy or I wouldn’t still enjoy hunting!

Hunting or the sport of chasing whitetails is a year-long adventure for me, whether that be scouting, planting food plots, setting trail cameras, hanging stands, shooting velvet footage in the summer and shed hunting, I enjoy doing it all and working hard. As a young kid I had watched my cousin and uncle get ready to go out hunting and come home with an exciting story of their hunt and I saw the passion and excitement that it stirred in them, from then on I knew I wanted to be a bowhunter for life. For me, bowhunting is not only about the kill and the thrill of the hunt, but it is about getting away from the business of life, spending time in God’s creation, and really using that time to grow my personal relationship with the Lord. That is why I love hunting!

We only have one rifle so my brother takes it and I decide to take my bow and see if I can get lucky. We get out before dark and I set in my rickety homemade tree stand, and get ready for light. My brother, Caleb is sitting on an open field at the edge of the timber where he'd taken a nice buck 2 years previous. It's a full moon and a moderate south-west wind which wasn't too bad and probably close to 50 degrees so not the ideal opening morning hunt. But I'm just glad to be out, About as soon as I get ready and finish setting up the camera, a little buck with like four points on one side and a straight beam on the other side trots through the opening and back into the brush and I'm already getting pumped for the rest of the morning. I had been there maybe an hour when my brother calls me and says there's an 8 point coming in the brush, and I get ready and stand up, fix the camera, no sooner than I'm ready this little 8 point comes cruising my way (Unfortunately the one trail he took my way was behind the tree my camera was facing so I couldnt get the footage). I had grunted a couple minutes before I could see him and he must have heard it and was on a line. I was already standing up with an arrow nocked and my release ready to go, when he walked behind a little cedar tree, I drew back smoothly waited until his body was completely visible and made an oral bleat which stopped him, at 20 yards. A little shaky I settled my second pin behind his shoulder and released my arrow hitting a little farther back than anticipated, but still a kill shot (I knew it was).
After the shot the deer made a circle and ran into the brush where I could no longer hear him. I called my brother and about an hour and thirty minutes later we go to look for blood. I found my arrow, a clean pass through but very little blood on the ground, pretty much none for that matter. We comb the brush for a while and decide to come back later and check across the road where we thought he crossed back over. After getting permission to walk the other side of the road, I come back a couple hours later with Cooper, and were prepared for a long day of searching. We walk in the thicket and not 30 seconds later we are staring at a white belly and antlers! To be honest I didn't expect to even find him because of how thick the brush was, but God definitely blessed me in both the hunt and the recovery!
